Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae)

Everyone is familiar with and just loves kookaburras, but ever had the chance to ‘touch’ one?

Meet Kookie, he is a Laughing Kookaburra. Yes the one you see when you go to the park or for a bush walk. If we have an early start in the morning, you might even get to see him have his breakfast! I wonder what he will have for breakfast?

Kookaburras are carnivores, preying upon a range of animals from insects and bugs to small mammals. Anything that is too big to swallow straight away is ‘wacked’ on the tree branch until it can be swallowed whole. You will be surprised how big a prey item they will swallow whole!

These highly social birds have a strong family bond. A young kookaburra will stay and live with its parents for a couple of years and help raise its brothers and sisters.

Eclectus Parrot (Eclectus roratus)

The Eclectus Parrot is a large beautiful parrot.

Eclectus Parrots are tropical birds, in Australia are only found in a small area of Cape York Peninsula, Queensland.
